A couple of years ago I found this huge piece of fabric still on the roll at my local thrift store. I put it away till a project came to light and now is that time. What I want to know is from era do you think its from? I wasn't thinking that is was very old until I watched Bomb Girls ( 1940's) and the fabric they used for drapes reminded me of this one. I can't even tell you what I think its made from except that it seems to have great drape ability. So any guesses???? :)
actually I;m thinking '70's - it kinda looks like the counch my mom had in the living room!
ReplyDeleteThat's what I was thinking too.
Deletewhoops - should read couch - not counch - haha!
ReplyDeleteWhat's funnier is that I read couch the first time and didn't notice your mistake.
DeleteThat is so incredibly pretty!!! If I could go out and purchase that fabric online or in a store today, even though I'm not a sewer, I would and then I'd have someone with the skills I lack create a dress or skirt (or both) - or just about anything, really - with it for me. That's how incredibly much I love it.
ReplyDeleteIt's straight up circa late 40s/1950s to me and is such a fabulous find (my maternal grandma has rose print curtains in shades of blue and green from the late 50s that have similar looking blooms; and I've seen many other similar fabrics from that era). I love that you were able to rescue it from the thrift store and tuck it away for just the right project.

I was hoping you'd chime in. I originally thought much newer until I started looking at patterns of the 40's 50's era. The fabric feels different then anything from today but I remember that feeling from when I was little. Hiding behind drapes perhaps while visiting somewhere.:)
